Purpose"Tates Creek Presbyterian Church is a community in need of grace, being changed by Jesus Christ. We are called to worship God, love others, proclaim the Gospel, and advance His Kingdom in Lexington and the world."
Tates Creek Presbyterian Church first met in 1984 for the
purpose of providing every attendee the opportunity to glorify and enjoy
the Triune God through meaningful and faithful involvement in:
HistoryTates Creek Presbyterian Church began in 1983 when the
Presbyterian Church in America received funds to begin a new church in
Lexington Kentucky. After serving 21 years as the minister of a PCA church
he founded in Greenville South Carolina, Rev. Al Lutz accepted the call to
come to Lexington to begin new work here. Our regular Sunday morning
services began January 8, 1984 with 40 persons in attendance, some of whom
are still among our members. With an average attendance of 80 in that
first year, our Sunday worship attendance has grown to over 500. In 1986
land was purchased, and by the end of 1987 the church occupied the first
phase of It’s present facility. In addition to this growth, we have
started three other churches in central Kentucky:
Trinity Presbyterian
Church, Richmond in 1990;
Grace Presbyterian Church, Danville
in 1993; and Hope Presbyterian Church, Frankfort in 1994. In 1997
we completed a new classroom addition which more than doubled our space.
The 2005 addition of the new sanctuary and Family Life Center will again
more than double the space available for ministries. AffiliationTates Creek Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America. Formed in 1973 with 240 congregations and 40,000 members, the PCA began from the need for a strong, Scriptural, evangelical, and Reformed witness for Christ. We stand today upon the ancient heritage of true-to-the-Bible theology and doctrine as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. At the start of 2003, the PCA was composed of 1400 churches, 2980 commissioners (ministers and ordained lay leaders), and 300,000 members.
