Missions Ministry
Our Mexico S.T. Missions team leaving early on Sunday
morning 2/19/06.
“Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise
thee! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy!” Psalm 67:3-4
Tates Creek Presbyterian Church supports missions and evangelism
work here at home and around the world.
Our outreach efforts include:
 | Supporting missionaries working in Zambia, North Africa, the
Philippines, Myanmar, England, Belarus, Peru, Atlanta, Baltimore, and
here in Lexington. Several of these missionaries have been sent out from
our own congregation. |
 | Annual congregational mission trips to the Yucatan peninsula in
Mexico. Partnering with Presbyterian churches in the Yucatan, we work
among Mayan people in Xocempich and surrounding villages. Our team
conducts Vacation Bible schools, participates in construction projects,
teaches E.S.L. at a local middle school, and assists in instruction at
Bethesda Clinic nurses’ aide school. Even if you don’t speak Spanish and
have never been outside the country, there may be a place for you on
this team! |
 | Congregational mission trips to Minsk, Belarus. In the past we have
had two families and several singles living and working in Minsk. Now a
TCPC team takes regular trips there to support a Belarussian-led
ministry to university students. Our times in Minsk also include visits
to two orphanages and to a children’s soup kitchen. |
 | Outreach to college students studying here in Lexington, Kentucky.
Our church sponsors Brad and Rachel Rogers
(Reformed University Fellowship at the University of Kentucky) and Rob and Lisa Wheeler
(Campus Crusade for Christ at UK). Other campus ministry staff are also
part of our congregation (representing Campus Crusade for Christ and
Campus Outreach.) |
 | Outreach to internationals (especially Latinos) living in Lexington.
Partnering with a local Hispanic Nazarene congregation, a team of both
adults and children has conducted a Bilingual Vacation Bible School for
the past two years. E.S.L. classes have also been taught, and currently
one of our members is conducting a Spanish language women’s Bible study
for new believers. |
 | Outreach to our neighborhood. Our church has participated in Read to
Succeed for several years. We invite children living in the Gainesway
neighborhood to spend time with a loving adult or teen from our
congregation once each week. After one-on-one reading time, the group
has a Bible lesson and enjoys a meal together. |
 | Outreach to prisoners and their families. We participate in Prison
Ministry’s Angel Tree program at Christmas, buying gifts for the
families of local prisoners and inviting them to a Christmas party at
our church. Other church members visit prisoners throughout the year.
Amy Dougherty has conducted evangelism and discipleship seminars for
prisoners in Nicaragua. |
 | Financial support to our denomination’s mission agencies, Mission to
the World and Mission to North America. |
